Abstract

I will talk about the occurrence of regular modulation both in wave media and in non-wave ones, in particular, in vortex structures of convection in liquid and gas layers (it explains one of the mechanisms for the formation of cyclonic and anticyclonic poloidal vortices in a convective medium from toroidal vortices, for example, in the clouds). I will discuss the nature of the formation of self-similar structures on the surface of a solid body and inside crystals, and the features of parametric and modulation instabilities in plasma. The most interesting topic to me is the discussion of the nature of the formation of self-similar structures near the threshold of modulation instabilities and separately the formation of rogue waves on the ocean surface. Therefore, this report presents an analysis of numerous manifestations of the appearance of modulation in various branches of physics, on which my scientific groups and I have been working for more than a dozen years.
