Augmented fidelity as an alternative to the average fidelity

We present a description of different techniques to assess performance of quantum gates. In particular we focus on a newly introduced metric called augmented fidelity, which provides extension to standard average fidelity by taking the average over von Mises-Fisher and polar cap distributions. We show the differences between standard average and augmented fidelities, and discuss potential use cases of the latter for benchmarking quantum devices.
