Quantum computing promises new approaches to solving hard computational problems by using the principles of quantum mechanics. The global scientific community is now using these principles to solve scientific problems by taking advantage of recent developments in noisy, intermediate-scale (NISQ) quantum computing hardware and software. I will discuss how developing NISQ algorithms may be used for simulating quantum mechanical systems and applying them to application-specific problems in chemistry, nuclear physics, and applied mathematics. These efforts are developing a quantum computing ecosystem through an interdisciplinary effort to translate scientific computing to the next-generation of accelerated computing platforms. Alongside software applications and hardware infrastructure, I will also discuss how to measure performance in quantum computers, the challenges looming for near-term demonstrations, and the milestones expected on the way toward new scientific discoveries with quantum computing. ______________________________________________ Zoom meeting details Topic: Quantum Information and Quantum Computing Working Group Time: June 18, 2020, 04:00 PM Warsaw Join Zoom Meeting: QIQCWG-ZOOM Meeting ID: 922 2710 3826Password: bQ,mfjpB!
