About us
The Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CFT PAS) is a research institute dedicated to theoretical physics. It was established in 1980 and is based in Warsaw.
CFT PAS conducts research in various fields of physics, including quantum information, cosmology and gravity, semiconductors, and atomic gases. The Institute’s strategy is to recruit outstanding scientists and give them freedom to pursue their research. This has led to a strong international position, publications in journals such as Nature and Science, numerous grants (around 30 projects), and participation in international collaborations. In terms of citations per researcher, CFT PAS is among the top physics institutions in Poland.
The Institute also organizes scientific events such as seminars, workshops, and conferences open to the public, and produces educational content available on its YouTube channel.
About the position
We are looking for two research assistants – PhD candidates (f/m/x) to join the Modelling Center for Quantum Technologies group at CFT PAS, led by Dr. Federico Balducci. The group will closely collaborate with Prof. Marzena Szymańska (ERA Chair Holder) from University College London.
The selected candidates are expected to pursue a PhD in an external mode based on research results obtained during the project.
One position will be supervised by Dr. Federico Balducci, and the second jointly by Prof. Marzena Szymańska and Dr. Federico Balducci.
Main responsibilities include conducting original research on open many-body quantum systems through development of theoretical and computational tools, as well as participation in international conferences and scientific schools.
Additional duties include maintaining open-source code libraries.
