(Closed) Call for assistant position in Prof. Michał Oszmaniec’s project (W4PhD-MO/01/2025)

The Director of the Centre for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CFT PAN)
announces a competition for one Assistant Professor position at CFT PAN, funded within the project
"Towards a useful Quantum Advantage" (TouQan)
https://touqan.eu/
funded by the National Science Centre (NCN), registration number 2023/05/Y/ST2/00140 (ERA-NET Cofund QuantERA II).

Project Leader: dr hab. Michał Oszmaniec

Requirements:

  • A PhD degree awarded no earlier than January 1, 2018.
(Candidates who obtain their PhD in the year of employment or within 7 years prior to January 1 of the employment year are also eligible. This period can be extended due to long-term medical leaves and childcare leaves, as specified by NCN guidelines).

  • Strong background in:

    • quantum computing,

    • quantum information theory,

    • mathematical physics.

  • Basic knowledge of quantum computational supremacy theory and probability in high-dimensional spaces is an advantage.

Project information:

The project is carried out in an international consortium including:

  • CFT PAN (Poland)

  • Instituto de Física Teórica UAM (Madrid, Spain)

  • Universität Tübingen (Germany)

  • University of Hamburg (Germany)

  • Centre Inria Lyon (France)

Goal of the TouQan project:
To develop a theoretical understanding of quantum simulators — experimental devices capable of simulating complex quantum systems with high controllability. The project rigorously studies the range of physical problems that can be reliably simulated by classical and quantum methods, focusing on quantum advantage.

Focus areas include:

  • innovative simulation cost estimation methods,

  • analysis of hardware noise impact,

  • fundamental limits of classical and quantum simulations,

  • leveraging recent advances in near-term quantum computing.

Opportunity to work with IBMQ quantum computer is available.
