About Us

The Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CFT PAS) is a research institute focused on theoretical physics, established in 1980 and based in Warsaw.

CFT PAS conducts research in various areas of physics, including quantum information, space and gravitation, semiconductors, and atomic gases. The Institute’s strategy is to employ top scientists and provide them freedom in research. This has resulted in a high position in Poland, publications in top journals (Nature, Science), numerous grants (approx. 30 projects), and participation in international consortia.

In terms of citations per employee, CFT PAS is among the top physics institutes in Poland. The Institute also organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences and shares educational materials on its YouTube channel.

About the Position

We are looking for an assistant to join the research group led by Prof. Bożena Czerny at CFT PAS.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Improving the code for fitting spectral data and time-delay profiles for selected active galactic nuclei (AGN)
  • Performing calculations and assisting with publication preparation
  • Additionally: processing observational data

Candidate Requirements

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of active galactic nuclei physics
  • Experience with observational data analysis (spectrum decomposition, time-delay modeling)

Required Skills

  • Ability to use and modify codes for AGN spectrum and time-delay modeling (Fortran, Python, bash)

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to request photometric observations of AGN via remote telescope networks
  • Observational experience
  • Experience preparing presentations and publications
