Position Description

The Director of CFT PAN announces a competition for one post-doc position within the Weave-UNISONO research project: “Electromagnetic and Gravitational Wave Lensing”, funded by the National Science Centre (grant agreement no. UMO-2024/06/Y/ST2/00190).

Research will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Marius Oancea’s group at the University of Vienna. We are looking for a candidate holding a recognized PhD (obtained no earlier than 2018).

Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable:

  • Gravitational lensing
  • Raytracing, numerical methods in gravitational lensing
  • Gravitational waves

Tasks for the selected candidate include:

  • Conducting research in gravitational lensing, gravitational waves, and general relativity
  • Serving as co-supervisor for a PhD project
  • Working on publications and science outreach with the project leader

The project focuses on research in the following areas:

  • Drift effects near caustics: study of transverse motion of lens, observer, and source in strong gravitational lensing
  • Gravitational wave lensing in strong fields: calculation of lensed waveforms from sources in strong gravity regions
  • Propagation effects in curved spacetimes beyond geometric optics using the Wigner function formalism

Required Documents

  1. Academic CV including publications, research projects, conference presentations (with GDPR consent clause)
  2. Signed GDPR clause
  3. Cover letter including achievements and planned research
  4. Copy of PhD diploma, or confirmation from the supervisor regarding the planned defense date (PhD required at the time of contract signing)
  5. Two recommendation letters from independent researchers, sent directly by the referees to the email below

Documents should be sent electronically to: rekrutacja@cft.edu.pl. Please include the reference number: MK/17/2025 in the email subject.
