Open call for candidates for the position of PhD Student – Research Assistant (f/m/x) at the Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing in the group of Prof. Michał Matuszewski (MAB/17/2026)

PhD Student – Research Assistant in Quantum Computing with Polaritons (m/f/x)

About the Project and About Us

Source of funding: Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing / Quantum-Enabled Computing Center (FENG.02.01-IP.05-M032/25). The project is carried out within the International Research Agendas programme of the Foundation for Polish Science, co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Modern Economy 2021–2027 (FENG).

The overriding goal of the Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing is to respond to several key challenges in the area of computing by paving the way toward verifiable, energy-efficient, reliable and scalable computational advantage based on quantum systems.

Project website: http://c4qec.cft.edu.pl

The selected candidate will join the Semiconductor Polariton Group led by Prof. Michał Matuszewski. The research activity of the group focuses on the development of ultrafast and energy-efficient computing systems based on light–matter coupling interactions in semiconductors, in particular physical neural networks.

These activities are carried out from two perspectives. The first uses a semiclassical approach to determine optimal conditions (materials, sample geometry, etc.) allowing the enhancement of quantum properties of exciton polaritons (quasiparticles arising from strong photon–exciton coupling), for example by strengthening their nonlinear character. The second approach is based on a quantum description of polaritons and the search for technological applications. Using approximate or exact quantum optics methods, we can study fundamental quantum regimes such as polariton blockade or develop full quantum processors based on neuromorphic physical systems.

The Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing is part of the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CFT PAN) – a research institute conducting research in various fields of physics, including quantum information, cosmology and gravity, semiconductors and atomic gases. The strategy of the Institute is to employ the most outstanding scientists while ensuring freedom to conduct research. The result is a high position of CFT PAN in Poland, world-class publications (Nature and Science papers), a large number of grants (over 30 projects), and participation in international consortia.

CFT PAN also organizes numerous scientific events, including seminars, workshops, and conferences open to the public. The Institute also creates educational content available on its official YouTube channel.
